Online you can find instructions for almost any repair. But it can be good to get a little help, tips and advice the first few times you try your hand at the sewing machine, for example. Libraries, volunteer centres and various organisations sometimes set up repair evenings you can sign up for.

It is also possible to hold a sewing evening with pupils as part of the friluftsliv subject. Then you can repair tents and other school gear that needs repair and maintenance, in addition to fixing your own equipment. And perhaps you can try sewing yourself a pair of fotposer (overboots) for the winter tur?

Suggested maintenance tasks:

Carry out simple tent maintenance.
1. Check that the poles are intact.
2. Replace the elastic if the shock cord holding the poles together is slack.
3. Check that there are no knots in the guy lines. If there are knots, untie them.
4. Coil up and tie off the guy lines one at a time, so they do not tangle with each other.
5. Check the tent for tears.
6. Check that zips, storm flaps and guy lines are intact and undamaged.
7. Check that the pegs are intact. Straighten any bent pegs and add more pegs if there are too few.
Bring boot grease to school and waterproof your own boots.
Arrange a sewing evening.
- Repair outdoor clothing that has tears and damage.
Go through the stoves and check that everything works.
- Check that the stove burns cleanly and that the flame can be regulated.
