About Snuitide

This is Snu i tide

Snu i tide is supported by the Norwegian Directorate for Education (UDIR) and is designed to cover the competence aims in the upper-secondary programme subjects Friluftsliv 1 and 2.

The content also covers parts of the curriculum for physical education and activity studies:

Who are we?

We have brought together many capable contributors to produce the content. They range from the Norwegian Digital Learning Arena, specialists in edible wild plants and meteorologists, to the Norwegian Trekking Association, and teachers of friluftsliv at upper-secondary schools, university colleges and universities. What they share is a high regard for the pleasures of friluftsliv and considerable expertise in their own field. See the full list of contributors →

The Norwegian Digital Learning Arena (NDLA) and the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) have been good partners throughout the development of the learning resource. They have contributed by making informational films, texts and content on various friluftsliv topics available from their websites and printed sources.

Snu i tide is published by Snuitide AS. The company is owned and run by Ola Njå and is based in Stavanger.

Gina Wigestrand was editor during the start-up phase, when Snu i tide was created as a learning resource, and was responsible for seeing the project through. Ola Njå is behind the technical solutions and design, and runs Snuitide today.

Why Snu i tide?

Snu i tide aims to broaden pupils' knowledge and lower the threshold for getting out into nature, by gathering and making available information about friluftsliv. Everything from how to use a map and compass to where you can borrow equipment to get outdoors.

Snu i tide uses film, photographs and text to make the content suitable for different groups of users. On these pages you will find recipes for cooking over an open fire and packing lists, as well as an overview of useful outdoor apps such as '113' and 'soppkontrollen' (the mushroom-check app). The aim is to show both traditional and digital, innovative approaches that can be of use when practising friluftsliv.

For the pupil

At the start of each chapter we have summarised the key points under the heading 'in brief'.

Most topics also have films that explain important information clearly and concisely. For each topic we have created practical, theoretical and digital tasks that can be useful to work on.

Much of the content is made for those who are especially interested. It is therefore possible to go deeper into mountain medicine, practise basic first-aid principles, or follow a step-by-step guide to repairing your own outdoor gear.

For the teacher

We have produced a teacher's guide that offers examples and suggestions for how teachers can plan their friluftsliv lessons.

The plans presented are intended as concrete examples of how the subject can be taught. The aim is also to encourage more cross-curricular collaboration, which is central to the new curriculum. The teacher's guide includes suggested activities with corresponding competence aims, examples of yearly plans, advice on assessment, and ready-made lesson plans for cross-curricular themes such as sustainable development. Each topic also includes suggested competence aims with worked examples.

Collaboration forum for teachers

We get better together. We therefore want to bring together teachers of friluftsliv in the 'Snuitide' group on Teams. The aim is a lively forum for collaboration, sharing, tips, advice and questions. To gain access to the group, send an email to gina@snuitide.no.
