Path

Map symbol for paths: a long dashed line for a marked path (hiking association, coastal trail), short strokes like dots for an unmarked path and old routes of passage.

A marked path is shown with a long dashed line. Examples are hiking association paths, coastal trails and similar.

An unmarked path is shown with a dashed line of short black strokes — almost like dots one after another — for unmarked and less distinct paths. Examples are old routes of passage or paths used by few.

Example of path symbols on a map.

Here there are both marked and unmarked paths. The dashed lines with the longest strokes are marked paths. Map: screenshot from norgeskart.no.

Another example: a marked path to and from Berdalsbu. From the hut and eastwards there is an unmarked path.
