Trailing azalea

Tags: Heather Description: Trailing azalea grows on dry, stony ground in the mountains, often on rabber, the tops of rises in the terrain. It grows right down on the ground in dense, flat mats with small, stiff, leathery leaves that stay green all year. This growth habit and leaf shape are precisely what allow it to grow on the weather-exposed ridges, where there is little shelter from the snow. The flowers are small, pale pink and bell-shaped, and bloom early in summer. Use: The name comes from trailing azalea having been used as a medicine against the disease knuterosen, which is also called grep. Habitat type: Mountains Edible: No Written by: LĂŠrke Stewart
