Multi-fuel / petrol stove

A stove that can be fired with petrol, paraffin and sometimes gas. The best choice for winter trips — it burns clean and efficiently in the cold.

Petrol stoves — also called multi-fuel stoves — are the best option for use on winter trips. They take up somewhat more space than gas stoves, but they burn clean and efficiently even in severe cold.

The stove is fired with various fuels. Petrol and paraffin are the most common. In addition, some of these stoves can be fired with gas.

The drawback is that the stove has to be pre-heated before use — a few extra seconds of routine compared with the gas stove. In return you get reliable heat at temperatures where gas barely works.
