Heavy snowfall

How many cm of snow has fallen during the night? With heavy snowfall, the likelihood of avalanches increases, both human-triggered and naturally triggered. The fresh snow will also place an additional load on weak layers further down in the snowpack.

A rule of thumb is that you should be especially alert if more than 30 cm of fresh snow falls within a 24-hour period.
