Tags: Flowers Description: The harebell has a blue flower shaped like a bell, hence the name. There are several other bellflower species in Norway. Many have blue flowers, but some have white ones. The flowers are pollinated by insects, especially bees and bumblebees. The harebell is the most common bellflower species in Norway. It is found throughout the country, but has declined somewhat since its preferred habitat, hay meadow and pasture, has declined. Use: The harebell has been used as a calendar plant. The plant usually flowers around midsummer, and people therefore said that it was haymaking time when the harebell was in flower. The plant has also been the starting point for many games. One was to turn the bell-shaped flower inside out without it breaking. If you managed this, you were to have a wish granted. Habitat type: Cultural landscape Edible: No Written by: LĂŠrke Stewart
