Bladderwort

Tags: Aquatic plant Description: Bladderwort has slender shoots and thread-like leaves that float freely in the water. The plant therefore has no roots. Since it has no roots and can draw nutrients up from the soil, it must obtain nutrients in another way. Bladderwort is a carnivorous plant that catches small animals in tiny bladders. When an animal comes near the bladder, a small “door” opens and the animal is sucked inside, after which the “door” quickly closes again. Bladderwort is found mostly in nutrient-poor waters.
