Chickweed-wintergreen

Tags: Flowers Description: Chickweed-wintergreen is a small, pretty plant that is common on the forest floor. The pretty white flowers are very visible against the green background. They look almost like stars shining on the ground. This makes it easier for the insects to find their way to the flower. The flower usually has 7 petals and is therefore also called the seven-star. The flowers sit at the top of the plant on long thin stems, either singly or two together. Beneath the flower, leaves sit in a whorl spreading out from the same point. This shape lets the leaves capture as much as possible of the light reaching the ground. Habitat type: Forest Edible: No Written by: LĂŠrke Stewart
