Tags: Flowers Description: The glacier buttercup has a large, white, parabola-shaped flower and thick, succulent, green leaves. In Norway, the glacier buttercup is the plant that has been found highest in the mountains, almost at the summit of GaldhĂžpiggen, 2,360 metres above sea level. To be able to grow that high, it must be well covered by snow in winter. Even so, it can take many years before a plant grows fully and produces flowers. In the first year only a single leaf appears, the next year another while the root system develops. In the years that follow, only a few new shoots appear each summer until the plant has finally grown large enough and gathered enough energy to produce flowers.
