Canadian waterweed

Tags: Flowers Description: Canadian waterweed is a plant found mainly underwater. Only the flowers stick up into the air. It can have soft, metre-long stems and thin leaves, which sit in whorls of three around the stem. Canadian waterweed grows only in water rich in nutrients. There it can multiply enormously and become a nuisance to shipping in rivers and canals. Canadian waterweed was first seen in Norway in 1925. Because it reproduces so quickly and has spread fast, Canadian waterweed has been placed on the Fremmedartslisten, a list of species that have been introduced to Norway and that pose a threat to native Norwegian species. Use: It is a popular aquarium plant. Habitat type: Water and bog Edible: No Written by: LĂŠrke Stewart
