An open fire for cooking
The simplest heat source — you need carry nothing with you. But you must have enough fuel in the area, and permission to light a fire.
An open fire can be made without carrying anything at all — but you depend on two things: enough fuel in the area, and that you are allowed to light a fire.
Between 15 April and 15 September there is generally an open-fire ban (bålforbud) in and near forest in Norway — you must have the landowner’s permission or be certain that there is no fire risk. Check the municipality’s rules. Standing and fallen deadwood may be protected in protected areas.
