BC binding

BC bindings mounted on fjellski.

The most common ski binding — a steel pin in the boot toe is clipped in. Good freedom of movement in the foot, less control on the descent. Plastic can crack in severe cold.

The BC binding works by kicking a steel pin in the boot toe into the binding, where it is clipped fast.

Advantages

  • Good freedom of movement in the foot while skiing — comfortable to walk in
  • The most popular binding today — a good range of boots and compatibility
  • Lighter than 75 mm bindings

Disadvantages

  • Less control on the descent compared with 75 mm
  • Made up of large parts of plastic — a weaker binding overall
  • In severe cold the plastic becomes stiffer and can crack

When does it suit?

For most trips in a normal climate — especially where comfort on the flat and on gently undulating terrain matters more than precise control on the slopes. Less suited to extreme cold.
