Cross-curricular topics: health and life skills

Cross-curricular topics: health and life skills In physical education, the cross-curricular topic of health and life skills is about promoting good mental and physical health and giving pupils tools to make responsible life choices. The subject shall promote a positive self-image that can give pupils a secure identity. The subject shall contribute to pupils gaining knowledge about different perspectives on movement activities and health. Pupils shall also learn to manage health as a resource in a way that benefits the individual, and learn to make choices that are good for their own and others’ health throughout life.

Democracy and citizenship In physical education, the cross-curricular topic of democracy and citizenship is about promoting the capacity for interaction in activities and reflection on what one’s own participation and effort mean for interaction and learning in the subject. The subject shall contribute to pupils gaining knowledge and understanding of democratic values and rules of the game through participation and shared responsibility in taking part and cooperating. The subject shall also make room for developing critical thinking and learning to handle clashes of opinion and to respect disagreement.

Sustainable development In physical education, the cross-curricular topic of sustainable development is about experiences in nature with an emphasis on safe and sustainable travel. The subject shall contribute to an understanding that the choices each individual makes have significance and consequences for sustainable development and the protection of life on earth, both locally, regionally and globally. VG1: - use maps and digital tools in a way that ensures safe travel for oneself and for others

  • use local traditions for travel in nature through the changing seasons
  • use one’s own skills and knowledge to cooperate and help make others good in activity and interaction VG2: - plan and carry out outdoor activities across the different seasons, where the aim is to have good experiences in nature
  • practise sustainable travel in nature and be able to carry out friluftsliv in the local area VG3: - plan and carry out outdoor activities and friluftsliv in the local area
  • cooperate to solve practical tasks in a learning community and, on the basis of practice and activity, reflect on how one’s own participation can affect others
