Granite is an igneous rock, which means it formed when magma solidified into rock. It can be recognised by its large mineral grains, which formed because the magma solidified slowly. It consists mainly of feldspar, mica and quartz. The rock type occurs in many colours, among them red/pink, white and black, and is the most common igneous rock in Norway. The picture shows a grey granite.
