Norway has a wide range of outdoor-recreation organisations. Who are they and what do they do? Perhaps you will find one you would like to know more about.

The organisations listed here have joined together to form a single large umbrella organisation: Norsk friluftsliv.
Norges padleforbund
Norges klatreforbund
Norges speiderforbund
Norges speiderforbund has around 18,500 members from the age of six upwards. They are spread across more than 350 local speidergrupper (Scout groups) all over Norway. Internationally, the Scout movement makes up a community of some 50 million children, young people and adults in over 200 countries — the world’s largest circle of friends, as we call it.
The activity is run by committed volunteers at every level of the organisation. Our ambition is to develop each individual Scout towards independence and towards taking an active responsibility in society, both locally and globally. We make the world better!
We also have speiderbasen.no, where there are many activity tips.

Den Norske Turistforening (Video) →
This is DNT. Den Norske Turistforening (DNT) is Norway’s largest friluftsliv organisation with over 300,000 members. The organisation is made up of 57 member associations with affiliated local clubs. DNT works to promote a simple, active, varied and environmentally friendly friluftsliv and to preserve natural and cultural values.
DNT wants as many people as possible to experience the joy of nature, now and in the future. That is the common thread in our commitment to public health, sustainability, nature management and schools. DNT has offerings for children and young people through DNT ung and Barnas Turlag, with trips and activities all year round in almost the whole country.
DNT also works to increase the use of nature as a learning arena in all subjects, and has several cabins that are particularly well suited to school classes. Read more about DNT’s school-oriented work at: DNT skole — Den Norske Turistforening

Norges Orienteringsforbund
Norges Orienteringsforbund (NOF) was founded in 1945 and has around 22,000 members spread across about 350 clubs around the country. The federation organises the various branches of orienteering, and through its member clubs offers a broad recreational programme. The sport has a recreational, training and competition offering for large parts of the country’s population — regardless of age, skill level or ability level. We want to encourage activity directed towards schools and local friluftsliv, exercise for the whole family, and activity in the sports clubs with both grassroots and elite sport in mind.
Norges sopp- og nyttevekstforbund
One of the main activities of Norges sopp- og nyttevekstforbund is mushroom inspection (soppkontroll).
